Station commander leaves, CPF speaks up

MIDRAND – Midrand Police Station Commander leaves less than two months into the job.

Less than two months into her new job, Midrand Police Station Commander, Brigadier Rienette Pieterse has left her position at the station.

Pieterse, who took over from Commander Colonel Steven Moodley, who was deployed to Kempton Park Police Station less than two months ago, allegedly left her current position after her application for a job in Garankua proved successful.

Midrand Police Station Acting Commander, Lieutenant Colonel David Mahloromela emphasised that Pieterse’s move should not make the community think that the plans to curb crime have been put on hold. “The work that Brigadier Pieterse started continues and we want to reassure the community of Midrand that we are committed to making sure that crime is reduced,” said Mahloromela.

“We are getting personnel to assist us from provincial police and we will ensure that support staff [police officers] at the station also spend time on the streets fighting crime.”

Midrand Crime Policing Forum chairperson, Steven Johnstone commented, “As chairperson of the forum, I am very upset with the re-posting of our new station commander. The community and the forum’s executive committee accepted her with open arms and unconditionally.

“In the short time she was at the station, she raised the morale of the police service members as well as the community. With her positive attitude and decisive strategy, she made a difference.”

He said the forum wished her well in her new post.

“The forum will continue to work hand in hand with acting station commander Colonel Mahloromela to make a difference in fighting crime in Midrand.”
