Spring cleaning in Ivory Park

MIDRAND – Ivory Park residents educated on bylaws and a healthy environment.

Various council and government departments, including Pikitup, the Department of Social Development, the Environmental Health Department and Metro police jointly spring-cleaned three streets in Ward 77 in Ivory Park Ext 9.

Region A’s citizen relationship manager Pierre Nel said, “The departments concentrated on litter picking [sic] and clearing illegal dumping around a school in the area, from Thuto Street towards Leboga Street right into Sisonke Street.”

Nel added that residents were advised to start vegetable gardens to feed their families, and informal traders were given advice on how to apply for trade licences and certificates of acceptability.

“They were also taught about proper storage of refuse bins and regular hand-washing. Information on bylaws such as illegal signage and traffic control was given to residents,” he said.

Regional director of Region A, Abigail Ndlovu said problem areas in the region were identified by service delivery inspectors on their daily rounds in their wards. The inspectors then coordinate the relevant departments for an intensive intervention. She said, “We want to ensure that our communities live in a clean and healthy environment.”
