Midrand police officers, the Midrand Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Metro police officers recently hosted a crime summit awareness campaign at Montecello Country Estate in Midrand.

Spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Constable Matome Tlamela said the campaign sought to educate and inform residents on how to prevent housebreakings, house robberies and general safety.

Tlamela said, “We also spoke to residents about the importance of being cautious at all the times and told them that a Domestic Watch Forum would be established soon.

“Residents were also advised to always screen their domestic workers and to employ documented people.”

Chairperson of the Sector 3 Crime Forum, Mokete Makubakube spoke to residents about the duties and responsibilities of the forum and encouraged community members to always report crimes and suspicious activity to the forum or police station.

Peter Blignaut, head of security at Montecello Country Estate, said the meeting was a success and residents of the estate were very grateful for the police officers’ dedication to the public and safety of the community.

“The information given to residents was informative; there will be ongoing initiatives as well as the establishment of information groups. Metro police also spoke to residents about an initiative for road safety awareness,” Blignaut said.
