Who will be the last fighter standing?

FOURWAYS – Michael Jai White, an American actor and martial artist shares his take on the Last Fighter Standing prelims.

Fist pumps, skilful flying kicks and wrestling were the order of the Last Fighter Standing (LFS) prelims at Fourways Action Sports Arena, Northlands Production Park.

Last Fighter Standing is a combat sport designed to accommodate all fighting styles for maximum participator, spectator and viewer value. There are three men’s weight divisions consisting of light, welter and heavy, and a featherweight division for women.

In an interview with the Fourways Review, Michael Jai White, an American actor and martial artist who has appeared in numerous films and television series, explained the reasons behind him being in the country to help present and support LFS. “I have been here once before and it is very wonderful to be back in this country,” he said.

“It is great to see people who look like me who are actually doing martial arts, which is something I love. It is known that martial arts started in Africa.

“The level of fighting that I am seeing is of spirited fighters who, according to me, are expressing their struggle, and out of that struggle comes the best form of martial arts.” He added that the reason behind him supporting LFS was because the rules of the tournament were superior to every other mixed martial arts organisation.

White said he was impressed by the fans, as it was a first for him to see attendees so engaged in every fight which proved to him how exciting the fights were.

The first two preliminary rounds took place in Durban on 5 June and Cape Town on 9 July, and the third and final preliminaries were held in Pretoria and Johannesburg on 30 and 31 July, respectively.

All four preliminary rounds will lead to the National Championships at the Ticketpro Dome on 15 October.
