Varsity College Waterfall invests in reading

WATERFALL – Varsity College Waterfall visited the LC Pre-School and donated reading material in celebration of Mandela Day.

The Student Liaison Body (SLB), VC Cares and the Nal’ibali Reader Leader teams at Varsity College Waterfall joined forces to read to the children of LC Pre-School in Midrand as well as paint a section of their perimeter wall, all in celebration of Mandela Day.

Students and staff congregated at the campus on 18 July.

Armed with rollers, paint and reading material, the league of volunteers departed on the small journey on foot to LC Pre-School which is adjacent to the office park where Varsity College Waterfall Campus is situated.

The children were so excited to see the new friendly faces and were eager to play. The Nal’ibali Reader Leaders and VC Cares team played a few games with the children and then settled them down in a circle to read to them.

Nal’ibali kindly donated reading material consisting of cut-out stories and activities relating specifically to children. The little ones were awestruck and gulped up every sentence.

Meanwhile, the rest of the VC Cares and SLB team were hard at work painting sections of the perimeter wall bright yellow. Each member had either a roller or a brush in hand, paying close attention to detail and taking pride in their handy work.

The SLB is a committee of students who are elected each year and are responsible for organising all sports and cultural events. The VC Cares is part of Varsity College which engages with the community and the Nal’ibali Reader Leader is a national reading for enjoyment campaign to spark potential in children through storytelling and reading.
