Suspect bust with hijacked car

MIDRAND – Vehicle allegedly hijacked in Elsburg was recovered in Midrand.

 

A suspect was arrested in Midrand for allegedly hijacking a vehicle in Elsburg.

The 38-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of 9 July by members of Ivory Park Police’s Crime Prevention unit who were on patrol in Ivory Park Ext 15.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said police received information from a tracking company about a Mazda 323 which was parked at Nyama King, a shopping centre, in Ivory Park Ext 15.

She explained, “Police proceeded to the address and on arrival they found the suspect inside the vehicle who was busy removing speakers from the car. The suspect was arrested and taken to Ivory Park cells. According to the investigation, the vehicle was hijacked in Buhle Park, Elsburg [in Ekurhuleni] this month.”

The suspect will appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court to face charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.
