Metrobus driver strike ends

JOBURG – Metrobus strike is over. Full services are expected to resume.

Metrobus has reached an agreement with striking workers, bringing an end to the strike that started on 8 July.

Spokesperson for Metrobus, Ester Dreyer, confirmed that the employer has reached an agreement with the union representing the striking staff.

According to her, drivers were unhappy with the appointment of an external company to provide inspectors on Metrobuses. Dreyer explained that the inspectors check that passengers on buses have valid tickets.

Dreyer said the employer had agreed to train internal staff to become inspectors.

Services are expected to resume on 13 July but she said they would be fully operational by tomorrow morning, 14 July.
