Three criminals off the streets

MIDRAND – Three men who are believed to have been part of a string of house robberies in the Midrand area have been arrested.

Midrand Police Station’s head of communication, Constable Matome Tlamela said three suspects were recently arrested for speeding.

On 29 June, the police, who were patrolling 16th Street in Glen Austin, spotted a black VW Golf speeding down the road. “Although the car had a registration [plate on the front], it did not have a registration plate at the back,” said Tlamela.

The police then gave chase and eventually caught up with the car. The three occupants were asked to disembark and were immediately arrested.

Tlamela said the car was tested to see if it was linked to any other cases and the tests came out positive. “It was found that the car was linked to a house robbery case in Honeydew.” She added that the suspects were also linked to house robberies in and around Midrand.

“They will soon appear in Wynberg Magistrates’ Court.”
