Locked up for locks

HALFWAY HOUSE – A man is arrested with a bag full of suspected stolen padlocks.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen goods.

Constable Matome Tlamela, head of communication for the Midrand Police Station, said their officers were patrolling Old Pretoria Road on the night of 25 June when they came across a man carrying a purple bag.

“The man’s bag was searched and was found to be full of padlocks,” said Tlamela. She said the officers asked the man for proof of purchase slips. “He couldn’t produce any evidence that he had bought the padlocks and was arrested on-site.”

She said the padlocks were booked as evidence against the man and that the police were still investigating the matter. “The 39-year-old suspect will appear in Midrand Magistrates’ Court soon,” said Tlamela.

She also warned residents against the purchase of stolen goods. “People should always keep the following in mind when buying goods that they think might have been stolen,” she said.
