Man awaits trial for Porsche theft

ALEXANDRA – Man gets bail pending theft trial for a recovered Porsche.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court granted bail to a suspect alleged to have stolen a Porsche vehicle worth R1.4million which was recovered and handed back to its Midrand-based owner.

The vehicle was reported stolen on 12 May after the owner had left it for cleaning at a car wash at 1.30pm while she went to a nearby salon to get her hair done.

At 3.30pm the car wash supervisor informed her that someone had driven away in the vehicle. The owner contacted a tracking company which reported failing to trace it until the police were tipped off on its whereabouts at a vacant house in Struben’s Valley, West Rand.

The man was arrested on 16 May when police, who were parked nearby waiting for a recovery truck to collect the vehicle, apprehended him when he arrived in another vehicle with foreign number plates.

The suspect had the stolen vehicle’s keys, claimed to be a mechanic and that, the vehicle belonged to someone who had sent him to change its license disk and number plate. He will be back in court after further investigation is completed.
