Mugged on the way home

NOORDWYK – Midrand woman's husband is injured after an attack and robbery.

A woman on the People of Midrand Facebook page posted about her husband's mugging ordeal in order to warn people about bushes that could be a haven for criminals.

A Midrand woman’s husband was approached by two men and attacked on his way home from work on 23 May on 10th Road next to a creche.

“They took everything he had with him including a long, grey winter coat,” said the woman who posted the alleged incident on the People of Midrand Facebook page.

On the post, she implored the community and asked them to bring back his documents should anyone pick them up. “If anyone picks up his documents that [the thieves], hopefully, throw away, please take them to Midrand Police Station. He had his ID, driver’s licenses and a few other documents in his backpack.”

She also claimed that her husband was badly injured on the head, although it is unclear as to how he sustained these injuries.

“Those who live in the area, please be aware that people hide in the bushes waiting for those who pass by,” she warned.

The woman did not respond to the Midrand Reporter’s attempts at contacting her. City Parks had not responded with regards to clearing the bushes by the time of publication.

Midrand police, however, published basic personal safety tips:

Be crime conscious – be aware of crime opportunities at all times.

Never walk around alone and don’t talk to strangers. Be on the lookout for strange cars or people.

Walk in well-lit, busy streets and in a group if possible.

Make sure your home is secure and become a member of an armed response service. Be sure that you know all the emergency numbers or have them displayed in an accessible area in your house.

Always let someone know where you are going and how long you will be but think twice before advertising your impending absence on social media as criminals also have access to Facebook and Twitter.
