Rabie Ridge police search a school in Midrand

MIDRAND – Police officers search a Midrand school for drugs and dangerous weapons.

Rabie Ridge police officers and Metro police recently conducted a routine check for drugs and dangerous weapons at a school in Midrand.

During the search, a school pupil in Rabie Ridge was found in possession of one dagga joint as he was entering the school gate, and two more joints and 60 cigarettes were found when police officers searched the classrooms.

It is believed the pupil who was caught with 60 cigarettes had the intention of selling them to other pupils.

When addressing pupils, spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Constable Jacob Nhlongo said, “Don’t commit crime because it will affect you, especially when you get older and start looking for work. Chances of you being hired with a criminal record are very slim.”

Metro police officer, Zolelwa Sohena, advised pupils to be vigilant in their pursuit of a better life by attending school. “Not everyone has the opportunity to attend school and has a chance at a bright future. Take your school work seriously and stay away from trouble.”

Police addressed the whole school during assembly and emphasised the need for pupils and youth to stay away from drugs and crime. They were encouraged to focus on their education and also report to police if they are being abused at school or at home in any way.
