A clean partnership

FOURWAYS – SA Waste partners with the Tintswalo Group for waste management and recycling

In an attempt to minimise the amount of waste that eventually ends up in landfill, SA Waste has partnered with the Tintswalo Group (part of Century Properties), to help with waste management and recycling at the group’s shopping centres.

These centres are Lonehill Shopping Centre (Fourways); Bel Air Shopping Centre (North Riding); Carlswald Shopping Centre (Midrand); and Crowthorne Shopping Centre (Kyalami).

Michelle Townsend, general manager of Tintswalo Properties said, “Our group of shopping centres… has decided to partner with SA Waste so that our tenants and community realise that it is our responsibility to take care of the environment, and become actively involved in making lifestyle choices and changes to support sustainable and equitable development.

“Building a cleaner, greener world for ourselves and future generations is integral and should be integral to our everyday life especially in our shopping environments. SA waste is a perfect fit with their great team, professionalism and passion for a greener earth.”

Jerry Mollema of SA Waste explained that to enable Tintswalo to comply with the current Waste Management Legislation, SA Waste would be assisting in separating the group’s waste at source. The various recyclables are then transported to SA Waste’s recycling plant in Marlboro for further waste separation.

The company will also provide statistical reporting to Tintswalo on all waste recycled, thereby indicating what and how much was recycled. This, according to Mollema, is a very important tool, as it reflects how much waste was diverted from landfill and ultimately contributes to a more sustainable environment.

Residents can use the shopping centres as drop-off points for their household recyclables.
