Former Halfway House teacher has passed away

MIDRAND - Former school teacher to be laid to rest on 28 May in Midrand.

The children of former teacher Adelaide Gerrard, previously Adelaide Raath, of Halfway House Primary School, would like to inform Gerrard’s former pupils and those who knew her in Midrand, that she has passed away.

Daughter, Kim Raath, said the late Gerrard was a Grade 1 teacher at the school for about 20 years between 1970 and 1993. “Our mom will be remembered as a dedicated, kind, caring and outstanding teacher by all who entered her classroom.”

She added that her mother, who was 68 years old, had battled with Parkinsons disease for 20 years, which severely curtailed her life and the activities she so enjoyed.

“She was a popular and longstanding member of the Halfway House community and flowers were one of her great passions. Her floral art skills were exceptional and she entered a number of competitions in which she was successful and won many awards.”

Raath added that the former teacher loved people and people loved her. “She was known for being cheerful, vivacious, compassionate and beautiful, who thoroughly enjoyed being part of her community.”

Gerrard leaves behind her dear family, grandchildren and many special friends. “She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but especially me and my brother Jonathan Raath.”

The funeral service will be held on 28 May at St Saviours Church in Randjesfontein, Midrand.

Details: Anyone wishing to pay their last respects are welcome. Contact Kim Raath on 084 760 4970 or e-mail kimraath@gmail.com
