Beware of hijackers in Midrand

MIDRAND – Two incidents of hijacking occurred in Ebony Park, Midrand, at the same place and at the same time, one day apart.

A man was hijacked in Ebony Park in the evening of 15 May after he stopped at a liquor store.

Spokesperson for Ivory Park Police Station, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “The complainant told police that his VW Polo, with registration number CF55GH, was hijacked when he was with his friend. He said they were about to go home when three men approached them, pointed a firearm at them and told them to get into the [suspects’] car with the suspects and hijacked the vehicle.”

They drove off with the victims and dropped the friend in Tembisa and the owner of the vehicle in Mabopane Unit A.

Sekgobela said in another incident, again in Ebony Park, the same modus operandi was used on 16 May at night, not far from the liquor store where the first incident took place. Again three men hijacked a man’s Toyota Corolla, but the vehicle was later recovered in Kaalfontein by members of a tracking unit.

Sekgobela said police are looking for the suspects and are investigating the cases to assess whether it is, in fact, the same criminals hijacking motorists in the area.
