Green Beings partners with schools in Cosmo City

JOHANNESBURG – Green Beings, an eco-friendly organisation based in Fourways, partnered up with local schools to make a sustainable difference in their community.

Thanks to Green Beings, a non-profit organisation based in Fourways, seven schools in Cosmo City had the opportunity to take part in the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (Wessa) Eco-Schools programme, each receiving astounding environmental excellence.

Roxanne Lourens of Green Beings said, “It is inspiring to see how our schools have taken ownership of their projects and continue to improve each year.”

Wessa Eco-Schools accredits schools that make a commitment to continuously improve their school’s environmental performance.

The eco-schools programme is an international initiative of the Foundation for Environmental Education which was developed to support environmental learning in the classroom. It provides a framework to help educators integrate sustainability principles throughout their schools and curriculum.

The programme is active in 58 countries around the world and was implemented in South Africa in 2003. Since then, more than

10 229 schools across all nine provinces have participated in the programme.

Alex Frost of Green Beings said the organisation had been involved with Cosmo City schools since 2011, and had also developed its own programme called the Green Schools Model.

“Green Beings introduced the eco-schools programme to complement and help the implementation of the Green Schools Model,” Frost added.
