Dog owners and their canine companions enjoy Dog Day at Riversands Farm Village

RIVERSANDS - Riversands Farm Village opened its gates to outdoor enthusiasts and their canine companions.

Dog owners and their canine companions were recently invited to Riversands Farm Village’s Dog Day to celebrate the opening of their dog trail and to raise funds for several animal rescue shelters.

Steve Harris, the farm village manager said, “The event was a great success and it was amazing to see the lack of opportunities that the public has to take their dogs out for a walk. Our venue was able to facilitate the whole event without any sort of hiccup as young and old people attended and I was also pleased to see such a response.”

The day started with a dog walk and treats sponsored by Bravecto, followed by several competitions run throughout the day which included obedience, musical sits and an obstacle course as well as the handing out of spot prizes.

The prizes for the main competitions were sponsored by Champion Pet Foods, while other prizes were sponsored by stallholders.

“We had several dog-related stalls come on the day, a display by Search and Rescue as well as Ronnie Magic. Several rescue organisations had stalls… for the public to get an idea of what they are all about,” said Isa Carter Of Asharah Stud and Training Facility.

“A big thank you to Champion Pet Foods for being our main sponsor… and contributing all the wonderful prizes we were able to hand out in the competitions. And also to Bravecto for the goodies sponsored to the walkers. Every prize sponsored by the stallholders was also greatly appreciated. Thank you to Search and Rescue for their great display as well as Ronnie Magic,” Asharah expressed.

Hester Pescivolo, founder and managing member of Beagle Rescue said, “Thank you for inviting Beagle Rescue to the first Dog Day at Riversands Farm. The venue was great and I think having this as a regular occasion will bring the much-needed awareness that rescue organisations so desperately need. We had a good response to our stall and educated a few people on the breed, and the benefits of adoption verses buying a puppy. I trust that Beagle Rescue will be invited again.”

The walk took place in a woodland area with clearly marked trails specifically designed for dogs and catered for different fitness levels of the dog and owner.
