Joburg Water honours exceptional employees

JOBURG - Joburg Water honoured their most hardworking employees. Find out which suburb's Joburg Water teams ranked tops.

April Fools’ Day is one of the most lighthearted days of the year and the day was also lighthearted for the Joburg Water Midrand Depot which won big at Joburg Water’s MD Annual Excellence Awards.

The entity honoured employees who go beyond the call of duty at The Pyramid Conference Centre.

Three teams from the Midrand Depot were joint winners of the best team in the entity and each member received an amount of R2 500.

One of the winners, the delighted Azwindini Ramaru said he would be able to spoil his family with a shopping spree. “As I work in sewerage, my family never complained about washing my filthy working gear. My wife has been very supportive, she deserves a reward. I am grateful to her. I will take her and my boys out. I want to buy them clothes and eat in a restaurant. I am also so happy for what I achieved with the team. We will work now for us to win again next year,” Ramaru said.

Another team leader, Epharaim Mafamba described their work as one of the busiest jobs ever as they unblock pipes, repair burst pipes, lift manholes and repair the benching of the manholes.

Mafamba said, “I feel grateful to the management. It’s the first time to be recognised like this. This will encourage us to work harder so we can come back next to collect another accolade.”

Meanwhile, Johannesburg Water’s managing director, Lungile Dhlamini said the momentous occasion gives testimony to, and recognition of, the staff members who have not only embraced the company’s vision but who go the extra mile in the realisation of the City’s and Johannesburg Water social compact with the citizens of Johannesburg.

“Finally, to all you who were nominated today, you are not only the pride of the company but are also an example to your other colleagues who emulate you, congratulations,” Dlamini said.

He added that in responding to the City’s and company’s customer services charter, Joburg Water has introduced a minimum service standard for their water and sewer network teams in their daily resolution of service interruptions whereby their water network teams are expected to complete a minimum of six job cards per team per day and five job cards per team per day.
