Residents Supporting Sustainable Development speak about the new group

MIDRAND - A group of like-minded residents from Midrand has formed an organisation, Residents Supporting Sustainable Development, to tackle the delicate balance between development, population and environmental requirements.

Areas they will be concerned with include Crowthorne, Blue Hills and Diepsloot.

The group, consisting of eight committee members, stated that they were motivated by a keen sense of decorum, and were extremely fortunate to have attracted top-class business leaders and property owners in the area to spearhead this initiative.

Speaking on behalf of the group which is affiliated with the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (Wessa), Melany Cottrill said it was often difficult to sift through all the information and activities that affected residents, especially when it came to dealing with the many city departments which dealt with rates, roads and town planning issues.

She said, “The drive of this organisation is to offer private property owners, as well as residents, representation at the City [Council] in accordance with express written wishes, giving complete regard to their constitutional rights. If it’s not in writing from you, we won’t presume to speak on your behalf.”
