Residents Supporting Sustainable Development join for the greater good

KYALAMI – A group of like-minded residents have formed an organisation to tackle the sophisticated and delicate balance between development, population and environmental requirements.

Motivated by a keen sense of decorum, Residents Supporting Sustainable Development (RSSD), is spearheaded by top-class business leaders and property owners in the Greater Kyalami areas of Broadacres, Dainfern and Carlswald.

The organisation is made up of eight members who bring vast expertise and experience.

According to Melany Cottrill, a member of RSSD, the organisation aims to become a trusted information partner. “Simply keeping abreast is time-consuming, especially with the many City departments, considering relevant topics such as rates, roads and town planning issues,” she said.

The organisation plans to offer private property owners and residents representation at the City in accordance with written wishes, giving complete regard to their Constitutional rights. “If it’s not in writing from you, we won’t presume to speak on your behalf,” Cottrill said.

This, according to her, will be very important as, in April, public participation is invited for the City’s Integrated Development Plan that will feed into the Regional Spatial Development Framework which will essentially guide development for the next five to 10 years, with consideration of future population movements, traffic pressures, infrastructure provisioning and preferred city layouts.

RSSD is also affiliated with the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa.

“We are excited at the prospect that we can stand together and leverage off our beneficial relationships for the benefit of the community and the locale in which we live and move,” she concluded.
