Baby found in dustbin in Noordwyk (WARNING: Graphic details)
MIDRAND - A still born baby was found in Noordwyk at corner Lever and George Road at around 11.30am on 26 February.
The baby was found in a dustbin nearby a complex by Pikitup bin collectors. Daniel Theledi, a collector, who was first to discover the harrowing scene said the baby was whole. “The child was not injured when I found him, but he was dead,” said Theledi. He said he found him after dumping rubbish into their truck. “He was dangling by the umbilical cord from the truck,” he said. Theledi called the complex security from which the dustbins belonged. “They are the one’s who called the police,” said Theledi.
William Mafu, a security guard at the complex said when he got to the truck, the baby was dangling face down. “The baby was found in one of our bins, but I didn’t notice anyone throw anything into the bins [as they waited for Pikitup],” said Mafu.
“I’ve been a security guard for a long time but I have never seen such a thing,” he said. His colleague, Richard Matome, agreed with him. “I believe that the police will find out who did this,” said Matome.
Midrand Police’s Constable Matome Tlamela said they still need to investigate the case, however an inquest has been opened. “At the moment we can’t speculate on the condition in which the [baby] died because the Forensic Pathology unit has not taken a look at the baby as yet.”
