New student recruits for Midrand Police Station

MIDRAND – Seven students from the South African Police Service Academy in Tshwane have begun their 12-month programme at Midrand Police Station.

The students who live in Ivory Park, Ebony Park, Mayibuye and Kaalfontein are keen to start working with the community. They told Midrand Reporter that when it came to career choice, deciding to get into the field to serve and protect was an easy one. One of the students, Tebogo Rafapa said, “I decided I wanted to be a police officer after I became a victim of crime.”

The students will work on patrols and assist at the police station.

Speaking about the students, Midrand Police Station commander Colonel Steven Moodley said it was a pleasure to welcome the new students to the police station. He explained, “I have taken the opportunity to have a heart-to-heart talk with the students with regard to prevention of corruption and also dealt with the consequences of ill discipline. They have noted my concerns and have committed to serve with commitment and dedication.”

Moodley said he is certain that the new recruits will be an asset to the South African Police Service and will diligently serve the community. He thanked the acting Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Major-General Nkuna for identifying Midrand Police Station’s needs and for the provincial management’s support.
