Five years house arrest for domestic violence

GLEN AUSTIN - A Glen Austin man was sentenced by the Randburg Magistrates' Court to a fine of R15 000 or one-year imprisonment for a case of domestic violence.

The sentence was suspended for five years on condition that the man was not convicted of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm during that period. The man will remain under house arrest for the full duration of the suspension.

“He will be performing 16 hours of community service a month and he will be taking anger management courses,” said Constable Matome Tlamela of the Midrand police.

Tlamela credited the work of Detective Constable Netdhidza Nkhumeleni. “Midrand police management would like to commend her investigative skills in this case which led to the conviction,” she said.

Tlamela also advised victims of domestic abuse to come forward. “Don’t suffer in silence, come forward and we will be able to assist,” she said.
