Housebreaking thwarted by security guards

MIDRAND - Midrand police received a burglary complaint from a residential complex in Halfway Gardens on 2 February after the complex's security guards thwarted the alleged housebreaking and apprehended the suspects.

The complaint came from the security guards on duty at the complex at around 2.30am after they apprehended two suspected house robbers while the owners of the unit were not home.

“When the police arrived at the crime scene, the security guards pointed out the two suspects,” said Constable Matome Tlamela, head of communications at Midrand Police Station.

Tlamela said the police then searched the two suspects and found BMW keys, two sets of South African identity documents and passports, and a laptop.

“One of the suspects had already removed the photo on one of the passports,” said Tlamela.

The suspects have been arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen goods.

“They will appear in Midrand Magistrates’ Court to face those charges.”
