Pikitup communications manager, Pansy Oyedele said residents and business owners were advised to take out their bins as per their normal refuse schedule starting from 8 February.
Oyedele said, “Areas which were missed last week on Thursday and Friday, as a result of the illegal work stoppage and also not prioritised during the weekend, will be serviced as per the areas’ normal refuse collection scheduled days.”
The spokesperson also encouraged the residents and business owners to contact the call centre for any complaints related to refuse collection and other related queries.
Oyedele said they understood that the reason for the strike was that the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) members were in solidarity with the six Samwu shop stewards who were charged with misconduct.
“The disciplinary hearing took place … the issue that catalysed this illegal work stoppage is not related to the issues of the previous strike and the current process that is taking place to implement … the political facilitation agreement in accordance with the plan. “
“There are no demands tabled by Samwu nor any formal indication of what the reasons for the illegal strike are, with respect to the previous illegal action. Pikitup workers were paid R 1 000 once off prior to Christmas and the process to benchmark entry level salaries commenced and advanced very well,” she said.
Oyedele also stated that there is an undertaking to back pay any salary adjustment to January this year once benchmarking is finalised. Pikitup management sent its apologies to all affected residents and business owners.
