Shownites_SA to donate to the homeless

JOHANNESBURG – Shownites_SA, a local initiative that hosts monthly events, will be collecting donations to hand over to the Twilight Children in Hillbrow and to homeless people in Braamfontein.

Twighlight Children is an NPO which takes homeless children off the streets and empowers them with skills training. Some of these children have gone on to university and attained their degrees.

Shownites_SA is run by a dedicated team of varsity students which aims to promote up-and-coming artists and gives young South African creatives the chance to showcase their talent, whether it be dance, song, rap or the arts.

The group is planning the handover event in March, where they intend to donate items such as clothes and stationery to the organisation and homeless people.

The students claim that they want to inspire the youth to be selfless and more considerate of others. They also plan to do handovers every month, with different supplies being donated each time.

If you are interested in donating, the Shownites_SA team has compiled a wishlist of items such as shoes, takkies, underwear, blankets, soccer kits and balls, as well as any items of clothing. The public is also welcome to donate anything they can spare, including food, hygiene products, toiletries, toys, school uniforms and stationery.

The event is taking place on 16 March at the Bannister Hotel, 9 De Beer Street in Braamfontien. Those who are interested in helping with the event, either by donating food or with handing it over are more than welcome.
