Hijacker arrested in Ivory Park

IVORY PARK - A man was arrested by Ivory Park police for the alleged possession of a hijacked vehicle and unlicensed firearm at Mafalandawonye informal settlement in Ivory Park Ext 2.

Police received information that a silver Audi A3 was reportedly hijacked in Klipfonteinview near Rabie Ridge on 22 January. Ivory Park police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said while police were patrolling in the area, they came across the vehicle with two occupants inside and stopped it. Sekgobela explained, “One of the passengers got out of the vehicle and ran away once the car stopped. Police apprehended the driver [in the vehicle] and then searched the vehicle. A firearm with three rounds of ammunition was found in the driver’s possession.”

Sekgobela revealed that when police asked the suspect about the licence for the firearm, he allegedly failed to produce one. The suspect was arrested and taken to Ivory Park cells where he was held for possession of the hijacked vehicle and unlicensed firearm.

He is expected to appear at Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon. Police are looking for his alleged accomplice who is still at large.
