According to Muthan it is important to:

Park your car in a place where there is security video surveillance
Before you leave your vehicle, physically make sure all windows and doors are locked

Do not leave valuables in your car visible to criminals, make sure all valuable items are safely hidden
If you are going to leave your car unattended, make sure you park in a busy public space
When you park your vehicle in your yard make sure that it is securely locked.
