Lever Road intersection a concern for resident

CARLSWALD - Since its upgrade, the intersection of Lever and 6th roads in Midrand has become a cause for concern for a Midrand resident, with many motorists reportedly driving through the intersection without stopping.

Resident Peter Phasha said, “I am concerned about the near-accidents that happen at that intersection. We need a robot to control some fatal moves motorists take there.”

Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson, Bertha Peters-Scheepers explained that the upgrading of Lever Road from Vodacom Boulevard to halfway between 9th and 13th roads was necessitated by the proposed private development, Erand Gardens Extension 36.

Detailed designs were approved by the agency’s Development Control Section and, subsequently, the contractor was granted approval for the widening of the road.

She said, “In addition, a traffic signal intersection will be erected on the corner of Lever, 13th and 6th roads towards the latter part of January and early February. In the interim, we request patience and adherence to the rules of the road.”

She emphasised that the agency is committed to providing the community with quality roads which are accessible and safe. As such, the entity is currently inspecting the works undertaken by the private developer to ensure the construction is in line with approved design and appropriate agency standards.
