Ivory Park Police Station’s festive season message

MIDRAND - Police officers at Ivory Park Police Station wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Station commander Brigadier Frank Mthombheni said police would also like to thank members of the community who put their efforts to fighting crime in Ivory Park this year by patrolling and informing the police whenever they suspected criminality.

Mthombheni said, “Their participation and their support is appreciated and we hope to continue working together in the coming year and beyond.”

He explained that this year, Ivory Park experienced problems regarding house and business robbery syndicates, specifically, wall smashers. “This type of crime towards the end of the year has dropped slightly. In one case, suspects were apprehended in Ivory Park Ext 2 a few minutes after robbing and shooting one of the foreign nationals at his business,” said the station commander.

Plans to curb crime next year include high police visibility and more involvement of community members in working with the Community Policing Forum, and police urged the community to report crime when it happens.

Mthombeni added, “We are happy to announce that 50 new police officers from the police training college will join Ivory Park Police Station, and this will help strengthen police presence in the community.”

Speaking about safety measures to take effect during the festive season, Mthombheni said of top concern are property crimes and rape. “When you leave your house to go away for the holidays make sure you ask someone to look after your property, and teenage girls must avoid going to shebeens to get drunk till the late hours or sitting around at parks alone. They may end up being rape victims.”
