Gauteng launches new Clinical Forensic Medical Services

JOBURG - Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlungu encouraged the youth to stop using drugs and focus on bettering their careers at the opening of the new Clinical Forensic Medical Services in Wynberg on 7 December.

The Gauteng Department of Health commemorated the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence by hosting an awareness campaign and opened the new forensic facilities.

The event saw former footballers and actors from Isidingo come together in encouraging the youth to stop drugs. The former footballers included the likes of Portia Modise, Banyana Banyana all-time goal scorer; Cyril Nzama former Kaizer Chiefs captain; and Sibusiso Zwane former Jomo Cosmos defender.

Alexandra Cluster commander Major General Zodwa Molefe said the abuse of women and children is still a major concern in the cluster. The Alexandra cluster includes Bramley, Sandringham, Midrand, Alexandra and Sandton police stations.

“We are against violence against women and children and we will do our best as the Alexandra Cluster to help curb this problem,” said Molefe.

The theme of the awareness campaign by the Gauteng Department of Heath is Count me in: Together moving a non-violent South Africa forward.

The campaign aims to provide survivors with information on services and organisations that can help reduce the impact of violence on their lives, and bring to the fore the plight of lesbian women who are sexually victimised in Gauteng communities.
