Midrand Primary’s hygiene a concern

NOORDWYK - A concerned Midrand resident brought the unclean state of Midrand Primary School's tiolets to the attention of Midrand Reporter.

The woman, whose name has been withheld, explained that the walls of the toilets also have inappropriate graffiti, there is poor ventilation and the toilets also have an overpowering chemical smell, which does not mask the fact that the toilets are still dirty.

The Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane, said after the concern was raised, the department sent officials to the school to verify the concerns. She explained, “The officials conducted an inspection of the infrastructure and the condition of the school and noted several areas of concern, particularly the state of the toilets. Officials met with the principal of the school to discuss these issues and a commitment was then made by the principal to keep the school clean and ensure that pupils are taught in a clean and tidy environment that is conducive to learning.

“Department of Education officials will also continue to make random unannounced visits to the school to monitor the cleanliness of the premises.”
