Four suspects arrested with hijacked truck in Glen Austin

GLEN AUSTIN - Four suspects aged between 29 and 66 were arrested for possession of a hijacked truck and stolen property with an estimated value of more than R1 million.

Midrand police spokesperson, Constable Matome Tlamela, said a police officer attended to a complaint of a suspicious truck offloading items at a plot in Glen Austin. When the officer arrived at the address the gate was closed, but he saw a white truck inside the yard and an old man came to the gate and identified himself as the owner of the property.

Tlamela explained, “The officer asked the man about the truck parked in his yard and the man said he was offloading stuff that he had bought. The officer was not satisfied with the response and called for backup.”

When more police officers arrived, one man tried to flee by jumping a fence but police caught him. The old man alleged that the man who tried to escape was the driver of the truck. Police found a jamming device under the truck and another one inside the vehicle.

Police recovered 30 pallets of rusks and 39 pallets of peanut butter. The two suspects, and two others who were on the property, were arrested and will appear at Alexandra Magistrates’ Court facing charges of possession of a hijacked truck and stolen property.
