Empowering the community of Alexandra

ALEXANDRA - A Midrand company of French origins has partnered with Rays of Hope to accelerate the charity work that the NGO undertakes in Alexandra.

Schneider Electric South Africa, a Midrand-based company of French origins, partnered with Rays of Hope in Alexandra to accelerate the charity work undertaken by the non-governmental organisation in Alex.

Schneider supports the charity work of Rays of Hope which is designed to bring hope to many broken homes in the township and well as child-headed homes torn apart by the death of parents as a result of the HIV/Aids pandemic.

Rays of Hope assists and cushions the burden these children have on their shoulders and the organisation’s work has not gone unnoticed.

Schneider Electric South Africa paid attention to the incredible work done by Rays of Hope and partnered with the organisation and trained various people in entrepreneurial skills.

Interviewed by Alex News at the Rays of Hope annual party, Kholiswa Fulumeni of Schneider said besides the entrepreneurial training, the company had also embarked on an energy programme in Alexandra.

The energy programme involved the donation of solar lights to various community members and non-governmental organisations in the township to alleviate the energy crisis caused by the fact that other people cannot afford electricity and have to live without power.

“We also trained the children of Ekukhanyisweni Primary School on the safe use of electricity and the various ways of conserving energy for the sake of its sustainability.

“Our involvement with the entrepreneurs is not just a once-off, but an ongoing exercise where we stand by them and also make follow-ups to assess their progress and offer more support to those struggling or those who have hit a dead end,” Fulumeni said.
