WARNING: N1 lanes to be limited this weekend

MIDRAND - Midrand residents and commuters have been warned about the N1 highway which will only have two open lanes this coming weekend of 4 to 7 December.

Metro police’s spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar asked for patience as the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) will construct a new Bridal Veil Road Overpass Bridge south of the Allandale Road interchange. “If possible, motorists are advised to use the R55 as an alternative,” he said.

The construction will affect traffic on the N1 near the Allandale Road interchange on the north-bound carriageway.

“[The bridge] is almost complete, with most works at ground level now finished, which means that new permanent lines will be remarked in their original positions,” said Vusi Mona, Sanral’s general manager of communications.

“In addition, all temporary traffic signage will be removed as well as the temporary concrete barriers,” he said.

Sanral warned that traffic in the vicinity of this new bridge will be affected from 9pm on 4 December until 5am on 7 December. During this period, five lanes will be reduced to two.

Minnaar said traffic officers will be present on the road to ensure everything runs smoothly. “People shouldn’t be too affected as this is a regular exercise due to roadworks on the N1,” he said.

“However, we are calling for patience and understanding.”

As for Sanral, Mona said, “[We] apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused and many thanks to road users for their understanding and co-operation.”
