8. TOPPLING DOWN: The pedestrian bridge above M1 in Sandton collapsed during peak hour traffic in October. Three people lost their lives.
7. PROTEST ACTION: Who can forget the #WitsFeesMustFall saga that turned into a national #FeesMustFall protest? Students from Wits, the University of Pretoria, and other institutions marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the fee increase for 2016.
6. WHAT NOW: A number of people were left stranded following mass evictions in the Joburg CBD.
5. IN THE WILD: Game of Thrones visual effects editor Katherine Chappell died after she was mauled by a lion at the Lion Park in Lanseria. The park and the surviving game ranger were scrutinised over the following weeks.
4. WIRED SHUT: Dogs, their mouths wired shut, were seen on the back of a bakkie in Joburg. It was a story that had the SPCA up in arms and left animal lovers distraught.
3. IN THE DEEP FRYER: KFC staff were caught washing chicken pieces on the floor behind the fast food chain’s Braamfontein store. The story that caused a nationwide frenzy.
2. NO TO XENO: Xenophobic attacks in the Joburg CBD and in Durban elicited an emotional response across the country.
1. TORN APART: The tight-knit Killarney community was shocked by the finding of a dismembered body in April.
