Pioneers lead the way

MIDRAND - Pioneer Academies, an independent school group based in Halfway Gardens, has opened up a new school in Midrand, Pioneer Academy which will open its doors to pupils next year.

“For now, we are open to Grade 000 to Grade one,” said Nnenna Nwachuku, head of the school.

She said the school curriculum would be based on the Cambridge International Primary Programme. “It is an enquiry-based curriculum. We want our pupils to be a generation of thinkers and to question the [world around them],” said Nwachuku.

This is a sentiment shared by the founder of the school group, Chinezi Chijioke. “[Our primary goal] is to develop young innovators,” he said.

Chijioke, who is well travelled, having been born in Nigeria, studied in America and now settled in South Africa, wishes to share a global perspective with pupils in his schools.

“We are aiming to open schools all over Africa. We already have a school on in Ormonde [near Gold Reef City] and a branch in Kenya,” he said.

In the school’s vision statement, the school hopes to bring affordable and quality education to all their prospective pupils. “Our fees range between R2 800 and R3 000,” said Chijioke.

Dimakatso Manganye who brought her son, Katlego, to the school’s open day was impressed by the fact that all pupils would have access to laptops, despite what grade they were in. Chijioke believes that access to technology is important as it equipped children for the future.

“I definitely want to enrol my son in this school,” said Manganye. “It will be a unique learning experience for him, and the fees are reasonable.”
