Business robbery suspect arrested, two others on the run

MIDRAND - A suspect was recently arrested in Ivory Park Ext 2 for robbing a tavern owner of R10 000.

Ivory Park police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said according to the victim, the business was closed at the time of the robbery and the complainant was waiting for the cleaner to finish cleaning the shop.

“In the early hours of 27 October, the complainant allegedly went to use the toilet outside [the shop] while waiting for the shop to be cleaned, and on his way back he was approached by three unknown men who [allegedly] pointed a firearm at him, searched his pockets and robbed him of the above-mentioned amount which was in his pockets,” said Sekgobela.

The victim allegedly fought with the suspects and shouted for help. Police who were patrolling the area heard the victim’s shouts and rushed into the yard and arrested a 31-year-old suspect who had grabbed the money. The other two suspects fled the scene when police arrived.

“Police also realised that the firearm which was used to threaten the victim was a toy gun. The suspect was detained in Ivory Park Police Station cells. He will soon appear in court facing charges of business robbery,” she stated.

Police are still on the lookout for the other two suspects.
