Suspect uses toy gun to rob victim

IVORY PARK - A suspect was recently arrested for robbing a man in Ivory Park Ext 6 with a toy gun.

Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said the complainant told police that while he was using an outside toilet at his home, he saw a bright light under the toilet door.

“An unknown man allegedly told the complainant to come out of the toilet or else the suspect would shoot at him through the door with a firearm. The man did as instructed. Outside the toilet, the complainant found the suspect who further instructed him to show him to his room,” said Sekgobela.

The victim took him to his room and, on arrival, the suspect demanded an undisclosed amount of money, a cellphone and a watch. When the suspect received all he had demanded, he left and the complainant went to report the matter to the police who then opened a house robbery case.

Later that same day, the suspect was arrested with three other men by Crystal Park police. Police spotted a vehicle in the area with four occupants behaving suspiciously. They allegedly stopped the vehicle and asked to search the suspects.

“Police found all the property which was stolen from the complainant in Ivory Park. A toy gun was found in the suspects’ possession. All the four suspects were detained at Crystal Park Police Station and charged with possession of suspected stolen goods.

They will soon appear in court, one suspect facing a charge of robbery and possession of suspected stolen goods, while the other three face a charge of possession of suspected stolen goods.
