Waterfall Corner development wins award

WATERFALL - Atterbury Property’s development of Waterfall Corner in Waterfall City was named the winner of the Spectrum Award at the South African Council of Shopping Centres' Annual Retail Design and Development Awards held in Durban.

 

The awards celebrate exceptional shopping centre designs of retail development projects within the South African property industry, together with their economic success. The award criteria considers the entire development package, including excellent design resolution, achieving a clear, overall development objective, responding positively to the market and surroundings, adopting innovative design and construction solutions, and embracing environmental techniques.

James Ehlers, managing director of Atterbury Property Developments said Waterfall Corner, which opened in April last year, was owned by JSE-listed capital growth fund Attacq Limited. The shopping centre was designed by architects Bentel Associates International which won the best design for new shopping centres smaller than 20 000m² at the awards.

Ehlers said, “We are thrilled Waterfall Corner has been named the best shopping centre development in South Africa. The vision for Waterfall Corner was to create a prime neighbourhood retail centre servicing the fast-growing, upper-income residential communities and commercial developments in the greater Waterfall City area.”

Ehlers described the design of the shopping centre as clean, contemporary and honest. “It uses natural materials like stone, concrete and steel, and is designed with a cool and modern colour palette.”
