Crime statistics inspire action

JOBURG - In response to the latest crime statistics released by the South African Police Services, short-term insurance group, Santam, provided some tips.

 

Fanus Coetzee, head of Santam’s adjustment services, offered some practical advice on how individuals and communities can be more aware of their personal safety and how to make sure they take necessary steps to safeguard their property and possessions.

The statistics indicated that there had been an 8.5 percent increase in robberies with aggravating circumstances. Santam said that their claims data collaborated with this statistic. It showed a 21 percent increase in reported domestic robbery claims (theft by use of force or violence) and a 13 percent increase in reported business robbery claims.

Coetzee said, “There has been an increase in claims reported when it comes to violent and forceful domestic robberies and this is of concern.”
