A moment of silence for fallen heroes

MIDRAND – Midrand police, together with local businesses, the Midrand Community Policing Forum (CPF) and local residents recently held a ceremony to honour and commemorate the men and women in blue who lost their lives while serving the Midrand community.

Families, friends and colleagues of slain policemen and women gathered at Smada Technologies in Midrand on 3 October.

Chairperson of Midrand CPF, Steven Johnstone said, “As members of the Midrand CPF, we not only honour these brave souls that served with us, that protected our community and our families, but we also honour you, their families they left behind.

“Each and every member that has been lost will live on forever in the memories of those of us that are all here sharing this day. They will live on in the smiles that we remember, the stories that we will tell, and the little things that they said and did that made us laugh. Each one of them touched our lives in one way or another and these memories are what will make them all live forever.”

MC of the event, Linda Khumalo, explained that although words were never enough, it was important to honour the sacrifice that was made by the fallen heroes.

Winnie Lamola, the wife of Josias Lamola who was killed in a tragic car accident on 21 August, explained that it was a very tough and trying time for the Lamola family. “Josias has left a huge gap and although that gap will never be filled, knowing that he will always be remembered brings a sense of peace,” she said.

Midrand Police Station commander, Colonel Steven Moodley, thanked all the sponsors that made the ceremony possible.
