Vorna Valley gets fibre boost

VORNA VALLEY - LinkAfrica and Maboneng Broadband have both been appointed to roll out a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Vorna Valley.

The Vorna Valley Residents’ Association (VVRA) has selected LinkAfrica and Maboneng Broadband as its partners to deliver an open access, FTTH network within the area.

“We are delighted that this initiative will provide residents with a high-quality network, and being an open access network, it will enable real choice and competition between ISPs and other service providers,” said Marianne Nel, chairperson of the association.

“Planning on the network will commence immediately with the aim to start the fibre installations as soon as possible,” she said.

“We appreciate that our residents will have many questions about the process and products. These, along with the next steps and associated timelines, will be communicated as soon as the planning phase has been completed.”

The suburb has chosen an open-access model, which means that LinkAfrica and Maboneng Broadband will operate and maintain the infrastructure while making it available to all service providers on an equal and net-neutral access basis at a lower cost than they currently pay for ADSL access.

“This means that residents will get much better service, speeds and product offerings at costs well below equivalent ADSL prices,” she said.

LinkAfrica will build, deploy and maintain the fibre infrastructure while Maboneng Broadband will start up, operate and support the network.
