ANN7 South African of the Year Awards billed to be bigger and better

JOBURG – Featuring a stellar line-up of local and international stars, the ANN7 South African of the Year Awards are set to dazzle this year.

The awards show, set to feature the likes of Christina Aguilera, Jason Derulo and AKA, will take place on 17 October at the Ticketpro Dome and is billed to be an unforgettable event. The awards will be open to the public, with tickets available for purchase.

Nazeem Howa, director at Infinity Media Networks, addressed the media at a briefing at the Sandton Convention Centre on 26 August, and explained that the event will go beyond simply being an awards ceremony, but will also be an entertainment show. “We’re looking forward to spectacular performances from both the local and international acts and this year it’ll definitely be innovative,” he said.

He also explained that the event was about celebrating the different cultures and diversity within the country, with the theme for awards being Unity in Diversity.

The event is also about including ordinary South Africans in this celebration and getting them more involved. Adding to this was legendary singer and one of the judges, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, who said it was about highlighting the good work being done out there.

“So much is happening in our country and there are many people doing good, so it’s all about celebrating that,” she said.

Chaka Chaka lauded the awards, saying the media needed to showcase more of these kinds of platforms to the rest of the country.

The awards will feature nine categories including celebrity, sportsperson, business leader entrepreneur and conservationist of the year, with the main category being the South African of the Year Award.
