10 cops in court for alleged murder of man in Ivory Park

IVORY PARK - Ten police officers appeared in the Tembisa Magistrates' Court on 1 September to apply for bail after being charged with the alleged torture and murder of a man in Ivory Park on 8 December last year.

According to IOL news  the officers were part of the police Tactical Response Team (TRT) and on 8 December they arrested Khuthazile Mbendu (37) for theft.

Last year a spokesperson from the Independent Investigative Directorate said  it was believed that Mbendu was allegedly tortured by the TRT while being transported by them.

It is alleged that the officers broke Mbendu’s leg, choked him and continuously beat him and these injuries eventually led to his death.
