Meet Jozi’s newest songstress

JOBURG - After quitting her day job in January this year, a very talented and very pregnant mother has finally launched her singing career.

Philile Sithathu, a woman who is described as ‘dynamic’ by those closest to her, officially released her first album to a small crowd in the Women’s Jail courtyard at Constitution Hill.

The songstress always knew she had a talent for singing and a passion for philanthropy, both of which were the driving forces behind the pursuit of the career she had always longed for.

While most people choose to ascend to their platform in the public eye before taking on philanthropic responsibilities, this singer with soul chose to give back to the community before kicking off her singing career.

Sithathu works with a home for abandoned and neglected children called Othandweni, and a small number of the children were in attendance in support of the woman who has done so much for them. The home also houses a significant number of children who have been sexually abused – a cause that is especially close to the singer’s heart.

She told one of her long-time friends and colleagues that she knew she would one day become a household name. “I’m going to give something back, now,” said Sithathu.

“I’m not going to wait until I’m famous to give back to the community.”

Sithathu was greeted and toasted by friends, colleagues and her husband, Leslie, between her performances of the songs on her self-titled debut album.

The pregnant artist has not let her growing belly stop her from conquering South Africa, as she has continued to perform all around the country.

All the budding star wants to do is inspire and motivate people through her own actions – a noble cause.
