Murder of woman sparks march

MIDRAND - The father of the Midrand Graduate Institute student who was murdered recently spoke to Midrand Reporter about his daughter and a Seventh Day Advertist (SDA) Church march to end violence against women.

Ipeleng Moholane, 19, went missing on her way back from church on 16 May. According to the father, she was found raped and strangled to death in President Park on 25 May.

Isaac Moholane said, “My daughter died in the hands of criminals who are still free. She is no more, but the suspects are still free. I want the community to be alert and not ignore violence, especially against women and children.”

Moholane said he is haunted by the fact that his firstborn child’s killers are still free. “My daughter has been dead for three months, the pain is still in our hearts, her three siblings also miss her so much.”

The organiser of the march, Kgothatso Moloto said, “The SDA church is inviting the community to march to raise awareness around issues of violence against women.”

Gauteng Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed, “No arrests have been made but police are continuing with investigations. An appeal is also being made to anyone who may have information to come forward.”

Join the march against Violence Against Women on 23 August from 10am to 12pm from Boulders Shopping Complex to Midrand Police Station.

Details: Kgothatso Moloto 071 426 9606.
