Sport celebration on Women’s Day.

MIDRAND - Sedikwa Trading Enterprise is a women-owned company which produces and supplies sanitary towels and nappies.

“The company is still on its baby steps towards this goal,” said co-owner Kenalemang Leteane.

She said she saw it fitting for her company to organise a Women’s Day event because the message of the day was synonymous with her company’s mission.

“I organised a soccer day recently, and received support from the departments of sports and recreation, and education. Khuya-Health Group and Ivory Park Taxi Association also helped.”

The soccer tournament was held at Ebony Park Loftus Stadium, and schoolgirls from four high schools in Tembisa participated. Tsosoloso and Umqhele Senior Secondary schools represented Ebony Park and Ivory Park, respectively. Maphutha Senior Secondary school from Mayibuye won the tournament and Ivory Park Senior Secondary school were runners-up.

“It was overwhelming,” added Leteane.

“We also had the gogos [elderly women] of the community playing a soccer match. The event was very well attended and supported.”

She said the company planned to make this an annual tournament that would coincide with Women’s Day.

“We have to have young and older women getting together and engaging in activities and conversations that will build stronger female leaders for tomorrow.”
