Robbers make off with R130 000 in cash in Midrand

MIDRAND - Two robbers are on the run with R130 000 in cash stolen from a shop in Midrand on 6 July.

 

Midrand police social crime prevention co-ordinator, Constable Nanty Belebesi, said the complainant who is a cashier, alleged that while on duty, she was approached by a man who pretended that he wanted to pay for items he had brought to the till.

Belebesi said, “The suspect was allegedly about to purchase three jackets for boys, two jerseys and one [pair of] trousers, but he suddenly pointed a firearm at the complainant and stopped the complainant from alerting the manager to the crime in progress.”

Another suspect went to the shop’s office, where he confronted the store manager and an assistant who were counting money collected from one of the tills. The two men took the money and left the shop. No one was reported to be injured during the robbery.

Police have not made any arrests and the robbery is being investigated.
