Missing farmer found after bakkie was recovered in Midrand

MIDRAND - Missing farmer Rudi Furstenberg was found on the afternoon of 30 May after his car was found abandoned in the early hours of the morning.

His pastor Danie Breedt said Furstenberg was safe but traumatised. He said they would release more information when they knew more but for now they were glad he was safe.

A Facebook user on the Eblockwatch page also confirmed Furstenberg was safe and alleged that Furstenberg’s vehicle was hijacked while he was on his way to Pretoria and he was forced into the back of the bakkie. The Facebook user further alleged Furstenberg was driven around in the back of the bakkie for two days and was the dropped off in a township close to Pretoria.

Midrand Reporter will follow up with authorities and update as more information is confirmed and comes to light.

30 May, 1.19pm:

MIDRAND – The bakkie of missing farmer Rudi Furstenberg (46) from Thabazimbi in Limpopo was found in Midrand in the early hours of 30 May.

Furstenberg’s pastor Danie Breedt said Furstenberg was last seen when he left his Thabazimbi home at around 4.30am on 28 May to travel to a fresh produce market in Pretoria. Breedt said Furstenberg did not arrive at the market.

“He was expected back home at lunchtime but he never arrived,” said Breedt. After 48 hours, a missing person’s report was filed at a police station and Breedt said in the early hours of 30 May, Frustenberg’s bakkie was found in Midrand.

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela confirmed the bakkie was found abandoned on the R55 in Midrand and that fingerprints were taken from the vehicle. She said the vehicle was now in safekeeping.

Breedt was further concerned that Furstenberg had not taken his diabetic and high blood pressure medication in three days.

A concerned community member posted the information on the Eblockwatch Facebook page in the hope of finding Furstenberg.

Midrand Reporter will update this story any information that comes to light on the case.

Breedt said anyone with information on Furstenberg’s whereabouts should contact him.
